You should be getting way more out of your kid's team....we can give it to you for less.

As parents, we want our kids to excel in sports. We cherish capturing their joyful smiles and appreciate the important lessons learned from competition and teamwork. With our schedules already overflowing with activities and responsibilities, adding another commitment needs to be truly worthwhile. This means it shouldn’t strain our finances or overcrowd our calendars anymore than we've already managed to do ourselves. . Most importantly, it should bring our kids joy and offer them valuable experiences along the way.
As kids, we just want to excel in whatever we have interest in. When our parents put us in a sport, we want to go out there and show them how good we can be. We want to show them that it is worth the multiple weekday practices, the costs they invest in us, and their weekends that are absorbed by our sports. Overall we really just want to make our parents proud. This is nearly impossible if we are on the bench during most of the game. Or, if we are actually in the game but all we do is run up down the court, not taking shots, or maybe getting a long rebound every now and then...that's still not enough!
Get WAY More for your Dollar, Time, and Effort
Parents who are familiar with the local 5v5 basketball teams often notice its drawbacks. However, the 3 on 3 format offers numerous advantages that both players and their families can truly appreciate.
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT - Consider this: how often do we see the tallest player designated for the post position while the smaller players are shuffled into guard roles? This early pigeonholing can stifle a young athlete’s growth, leaving them with an underdeveloped skill set. While post players may excel at rebounding and close-range moves, they might struggle with ball handling and passing. This was my exact case growing up as a big kid. Conversely, guards may miss out on honing their rebounding abilities. To make a mark on a high school varsity team, being a well-rounded player is essential.
OPPORTUNITY - In a 3v3 format, every player has the opportunity to handle the ball and shoot the shots. Without the relief of just allowing the best ball handler to always handle the ball/score, kids can explore all aspects of their game. They’ll make mistakes, yes, but that’s how improvement happens—by learning through experience, not by succumbing to a “he/she is better than me so they should do it” mentality. This nurturing environment fosters growth, creativity, and confidence, setting them up for success both on and off the court. If you're accustomed to 5v5, choosing the TAP 3v3 format will absolutely shock you on how much improvement your child will make in a short period of time.
It's simple math. In a 5v5 game, a player plays 20-50% of the time and only takes 3-5 shots per game, Their opportunity to learn, improve, or gain experience is limited to those moments. Compare that to our 3v3 game where they play 100% of the time and get 30-35 shots as well as play the role of ball handler, rebounder, screener, and passer. They will gain in ONE 3v3 game what it would take them 5-8 games to gain in a 5v5 structure. It's a no brainer in that regard. Every player is always a main contributor. They have no choice.
FINANCIAL OBLIGATION - The costs associated with 5V5 basketball can vary widely, often with higher fees associated with "better teams" where playing time is often very limited. Many programs now include out-of-town tournaments, which add hotel and travel expenses on top of registration dues. Plus, let’s not overlook the increasing admission fees for families wanting to support their young athletes on game day. $2,000-$2,500 for a 10 week season is quite normal when you consider team registration fees, jersey purchase, gas, hotels, and even game day admission. With 3 or 4 seasons throughout the year, that could $10,000 in total 🤯
In contrast, our TAP 3v3 leagues offer a budget-friendly way to enjoy supporting your athletes. Since this is a pay as you go structure, you can choose when to enlist your kid's team. We also only use local gyms so travel is minimal. A 5 week season costs around $100 per kid. We want to set things up so there are no barriers for kids wanting to improve and have fun, and for parents focusing on the development of their athlete. This approach allows for skill development without the excessive financial strain, making it a smart choice for families.
The Most Precious Resource – TIME: Families choose our 3v3 tournaments because they know with certainty where they'll be playing games each weekend. Long gone are the days of not being able to plan weekend festivities because your athlete's game schedule doesn't come out until Thursday night when they could be playing Friday evening. There’s also no need to rush across state lines or book weekend hotel stays. With no mandatory practices, you save even more time that would otherwise be spent driving to and from a gym during the week for practice. Your child plays two 30-minute games each day on the scheduled weekend, allowing you to be back home in less than 2 hours. In contrast, weekend tournaments can require hours of commitment, with multiple games spread over two or three days. 3v3 basketball respects your time, making it a more convenient option for busy families or families with multiple athletes.
Did we mention how fun our 3v3 League is?
Not only are 3v3 tournaments competitive and give opportunities to improve skills drastically...but they are an absolute BLAST to participate in.
Anybody Can Register a Team!
Any team can be registered from grades 2-12. That means that your kids can team up with their classmates, their baseball/volleyball/football teammates, their church friends, their cousins, their neighbors, their park mates...anyone who they enjoy spending time with. We segment our tournaments by age and rotate teams as much as possible to play everybody in their age division. The sky is the limit and competing with friends/family has never been easier and more entertaining. Imagine the bragging rights walking in school on Monday knowing that you and your classmates beat the team from Ms. Johnson's class and you'll have bragging rights at recess or gym class!
You also do not need to be a big time basketball hopeful to participate. Sure, there will be some athletes there taking it serious and trying to get as good as possible. But there will be plenty of teams there just for fun. The majority of teams will be there just to play, laugh, create fun memories together, and possibly win some cool prizes in the process. Just to hang out with their buddies and create some awesome experiences together. There's no better way to keep your kids active and off their video games or iPads/TV screens than competing alongside their friends.
Competitive...but not Really?
We believe there is nothing better than healthy competition in sports. So many life lessons are learned in a competitive team environment. However, extreme competition is not our ultimate goal here. We want to see no tears shed after the final horn goes off. We keep it exciting by giving out small rewards if teams win both of their daily games as well as having a tournament style ending to our leagues where we give out pretty awesome prizes for the winners. It's very much the carrot over the stick approach. We want all of our athletes to want to win simply to get the reward. In doing so, they will learn many skills, leadership qualities, teamwork, and gain the confidence that we hope they aim to achieve by participating in standard 5v5 competitions. We encourage our teams to self coach and figure out solutions in game. How bad could it get?
It's just DIFFERENT
By different we mean that we provide a different overall basketball experience. The normal things will be there like playing hard to win, tough but necessary in-game lessons, great wins, sad losses, buzzer beaters, etc. But on top of that, there will be a number of experiences that most basketball tournaments don't possess. There will be music playing, horns blasting, team photo shoots, interesting rewards for winning teams, sporadic challenges for parents who want to participate and much more. We want to make sure that every time you and your kids come to our 3v3 event, you leave there excited to come back the next weekend.
All in all - This is what you Want & need
3v3 in the format that we offer it, is exactly what you didn't know you or your kid needed. When you add up all the benefits mentioned above, There is no better opportunity to explore a different style of play that will benefit your athlete and be remarkably enjoyable for you too. As more and more families are ditching traditional 5on5 hoops and joining our 3v3 leagues, three things stand out above the rest. The kids are having an absolute blast, they're getting so much better as they continue to participate, and parents are finally getting out of something what they expected when they signed their kids up. Confidence boosts, fun competition, and motivation to improve! With those 3 things in mind, there's no reason for you to not register a team and check it out for yourself! Once you see it, you'll never look back!
